Chappell Roan confronts photographer for being “disrespectful”: “I deserve an apology for that”

Chappell Roan has confronted a photographer she said had previously been “disrespectful” towards her.

Roan was attending Olivia Rodrigo‘s Guts World Tour film premiere last night (October 25) when she recognised a photographer she had previously encountered at the Grammy Awards.

Video clips circulating on social media show Roan accusing the photographer of “being disrespectful to me at the Grammys,” and claiming they had “yelled” at her during an after-party.

She then goes on to say: “I deserve an apology for that. You need to apologise to me,” to which the photographer doesn’t respond.

Earlier this year, the former NME cover star also hit back at a photographer who seemingly told her to “shut the fuck up” while at the 2024 MTV VMAs. Roan turned around and responded: “You shut the fuck up!”

Following the incident, Roan was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight, where she spoke about her clash with the photographer: “It’s quite overwhelming and quite scary. I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying.”

Roan added: “And I yelled back. I yelled back! You don’t get to yell at me like that!

Roan’s feelings about fame have consistently made headlines, with her recently comparing it to “an abusive ex-husband”. In an interview with The Face, the singer vented about the normalisation of extreme fan behaviour including “stalking, talking shit online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public.” She added: “I didn’t know it would feel this bad.”

Prior to that, she had taken to TikTok to share her thoughts on “weird” and “creepy” followers, calling out the “predatory behaviour” of so-called “superfans” that includes “nonconsensual physical and social interactions”.

While there was substantial backlash on social media, several female artists came to Roan’s defence, including Billie EilishKaty PerryMUNAMiley Cyrusboygenius and Sabrina Carpenter.

In other news, Roan’s producer Dan Nigro recently revealed that her second album is on the way, which so far includes “fun, up-tempo country song,” a “couple of ballads” and a “mid-tempo rock song”. Nigro went on to say that Roan would not be discussing her experiences with fame on the record.

So far, fans suspect that one song on the new album could be ‘Subway’, which Roan debuted at her Governor’s Ball performance. Speaking about the track to Rolling Stone, Roan said she liked performing the song but that it likely wouldn’t be a single.

“I just like performing it,” she told the publication. “I have two others that I really want to perform, too, [but] I don’t know what’s next. When I don’t know, it just hasn’t hit me yet because usually I know. I always have an answer. I don’t think it’s ‘Subway.’ ”
