Chappell Roan opens up about the impact Miley Cyrus has had on her career
Chappell Roan has opened up about the impact that Miley Cyrus has had on her burgeoning career – find out what the fast-rising pop star had to say below.
This past weekend, Cyrus became the youngest-ever Disney Legend, the company’s equivalent of a Hall of Fame inductee. For the induction, Chappell Roan recorded a video message in which she speaks of Cyrus’ impact.
“The thing that I admire about Miley Cyrus is that she constantly reinvents herself and always works,” she began. “For a lot of artists, it can seem inauthentic or out of the blue, but she’s very open about her transformations artistically and personally, and she’s so true to herself. She puts out music that is so authentic.”
The NME The Cover star continued: “Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana tour with Jonas Brothers opening was my first concert ever. She came down in a box from the ceiling. I was like, ‘How do I do that one day?’ I still think about it. I still think about the show. I want to be like Hannah Montana.”
“There’s a lot of crossover between Miley and my project, and it’s just like, I’m such a fan too.”

Chappell Roan released her debut studio album, ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’, last September. In a four-star review, NME described it as “a display of Roan’s bold and brazen pen, where she places searing revelations alongside some deliciously cheeky choruses”.
Her rapid rise to fame has now seen her achieve her first UK Number One album almost a year after its release, which Elton John congratulated her on recently.
However, with Roan’s star rising rapidly over the last few months, it has charged up three places to the top spot on the Official UK Albums Chart, just ahead of Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’.
Roan has also recent been open about the drawbacks over her meteoric rise to fame, and expressed wanting to “[pump] the brakes” on it after fans gave off “stalker vibes”. Speaking on the latest episode of the Comment Section podcast with Drew Afualo, Roan said: “People have started to be freaks — like, [they] follow me and know where my parents live, and where my sister works. All this weird shit.”
Roan recalled: “This is the time when a few years ago when I said that if [there were] stalker vibes or my family was in danger, I would quit. And we’re there. We’re there! I’m just kind of in this battle… I’ve pumped the brakes on, honestly, anything to make me more known. It’s kind of a forest fire right now. I’m not trying to go do a bunch of shit.”
