Razorlight have shared their catchy new single ‘Zombie Love’ from their upcoming new album ‘Planet Nowhere‘. Check it out below.

The bright indie track features a groovy-bright melody and jangly guitars. “You’re not the only cowgirl that I ever went down on / But you’re the only love I had to walk out on,” sings frontman Johnny Borrell describing the issues of a of stop-start love and relationship.

Speaking about the new single in a press release, Borrell shared: “‘Zombie Love’ was the first thing that Andy [Burrows] and I wrote when we got back together. I was trying to land it somewhere between Outkast, Beck’s ‘Midnite Vultures’ and The Pixies. If I didn’t manage that then sue me. I spent a while listening to songs from the ‘00s and I’m absolutely honoured and completely humbled to have been mentioned in the same breath as so many great bands over the years.

“So if you’re reading this and had anything to do with giving this band any praise at any point, let me just say thanks. I probably would have been a better artist if I’d been able to relax just for a second back then. What can I say, I’m all or nothing, I was like a lightning bolt striking the same place over and over again. The definition of madness, but maybe it brought something.”

The singer also opened up about the creation of the band’s new LP which marks the first album recorded by the group’s classic line-up since 2008. It sees Borrell, guitarist Bjorn Agren, drummer Andy Burrows and bassist Carl Dalemo reunited for the first time since their third album ‘Slipway Fires’.

‌”I really didn’t expect there to ever be another Razorlight album,” Borrell explained in the press release. “I did it because it’s good, I wouldn’t make music for any other reason. I think it could be a lot of people’s favourite Razorlight album too. But right now, one per cent of our fans know it exists. Let’s try and get that to five per cent? Oh and fuck you, we still don’t need you to tell us we’re good.”

‘Zombie Love’ marks their third single to be released from their upcoming fifth album ‘Planet Nowhere’ following ‘Empire Service’ and the LP’s lead track ‘Scared Of Nothing’. ‘Planet Nowhere is set for release on October 25, and you can pre-order it here.

Speaking to NME earlier this summer about the impetus for making the new full-length record, Borrell revealed that he would have considered ending the band if they hadn’t been able to make it.

“I said to everyone: ‘If new music doesn’t work, let’s move on.’ I was ready to ceremonially say goodbye to Razorlight,” he said. “It would have been a major deal. I was contemplating all kinds of ways to end it, some involving Japanese swords. But this album wanted to be made.”

The frontman also reflected on the band’s breakthrough years in the mid-’00s: “We were all aware something bananas was happening. You can’t be that much in demand and not think: ‘This isn’t totally normal.’

“The time since gave me a lot of time to reflect and think: ‘Yeah, that really, really wasn’t normal. It was amazing.’ And at the top of that list is the way it feels when Razorlight plays together. When we lift off, it’s something I haven’t felt anywhere else.”
