Chrissy Teigen says the White House’s reaction to Selena Gomez’s immigrant raids post is “fucking preposterous”

Chrissy Teigen has come to Selena Gomez‘s defence in the aftermath of the White House’s response to her posts on the recent immigration raids.

Last week (January 27), Emilia Pérez star and singer Selena Gomez posted an Instagram story, recording herself in tears saying: “All my people are getting attacked … the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise”.

Her post came a day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported a record 956 people arrested after President Donald Trump took aggressive action over immigration in the country, signing a number of executive orders to implement his plans.

Following Gomez’s post, a Republican authority figure poured scorn on her tearful response to US President Donald Trump’s deportation measures, telling her to “go to congress”. Trump’s border czar Tom Homan reacted to the video by saying: “We’re gonna do this job, and we’re gonna enforce the laws of this country. If they don’t like it, then go to congress and change the law”.

Republican former Senate candidate Sam Parker also gave a hostile response to Gomez’s words, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “Deport Selena Gomez”. The official White House account on X has also posted a video addressing Selena Gomez, in which several women are seen telling the musician-actor “you don’t know who you’re crying for”.

Now, TV personality, author and model Chrissy Teigen has spoken out in support of Gomez, telling TMZ: “I love her. Empathy should never be frowned upon or made fun of, and the fact that the White House has enough time to even make a statement or a video about it is fucking preposterous and disgusting and lame and loser behaviour.”

Teigen isn’t the only person backing Gomez in the matter. Flavor Flav has hailed her for her comments: “Team Selena Gomez. Again. That woman is always so brave to share her truth,,, and so many are quick to bully her”.

This isn’t the first time Selena Gomez has spoken out against mass deportation. In the past she has has been vocal in her support of undocumented migrants in the US, hosting the show Living Undocumented in 2019, which focused on the uncertain future of families evading ICE deportations. She also wrote an op-ed for Time Magazine, telling the story of her aunt’s only journey across the US/Mexican border.

“Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I never forget how blessed I am to have been born in this country thanks to my family and the grace of circumstance,” she said at the time.
