Christian Nodal & Peso Pluma’s ‘La Intención’ Rises to No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay
Christian Nodal and Peso Pluma take over Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart as “La Intención” lands at No. 1 on the list dated March 30.
Nodal and Pluma’s first collab springs from No. 5 to crown the chart with 8.3 million audience impressions earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 21, according to Luminate; that’s a 27% gain from the previous week.
Through its double-digit win, “La Intención” earns the Greatest Gainer honors, awarded weekly to the song with the largest increase in plays among the ranking’s 40 titles. Plus, it dethrones Intocable’s “Ojalá Que Estuvieras Así” from the lead (it falls 1-3) after a 22% decrease in impressions, to 6.2 million.
Thanks to “La Intención,” released via JG/Producciones Ladrón/ Sony Music Latin, JG Music reclaims the No. 1 spot for the first time in over two years. “2 Veces” by Los Plebes del Rancho Grande and Nodal, completed its four-week domination in May 2021.
As “Intención” reigns on Regional Mexican Airplay, the Mexican radio hit nearly misses the No. 1 on the overall Latin Airplay chart, comprised of a panel of Spanish-language stations also ranked by audience impressions, where it hikes 7-2 with 8.8 impressions, up 25%.
Back on Regional Mexican Airplay, “Intención” yields Nodal’s record-extending 16th No. 1 among soloists on the radio ranking. Plus, it ties with Conjunto Primavera and Los Tigres del Norte for the sixth-most overall. Here’s the recap of the acts with the most chart-toppers:
- 24, Calibre 50
- 19, Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga
- 19, Intocable
- 18, Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga
- 17, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon de Rene Camacho
- 16, Christian Nodal
- 16, Conjunto Primavera
- 16, Los Tigres del Norte
Further, with the new champ, Peso Pluma claims his third No. 1 just four months after “Bipolar” — with Jasiel Nuñez and Junior H — claimed one week atop Regional Mexican Airplay.
