Christina Ricci really hates ’90s band Live
Yellowjackets star Christina Ricci is not a fan of the ’90s alt-rock band Live, despite their prominent appearance in season two of the show.
The Wednesday actor plays the adult version of Misty Quigley in the survival thriller, which returned to Paramount+ for the first two episodes of season three last Sunday (February 16).
It was in episode seven of season two that Live’s 1994 hit ‘Lightning Crashes’ showed up, with Lauren Ambrose’s Van declaring her love for the song, before it soundtracked a violent flashback scene later in the episode. Check out that scene below, and the song’s original video.
During the press tour for season three, however, Ricci has been honest about her feelings about that song, and Live in general. Absolute Radio asked her for her choice of a track for a video edit of Misty, to which she replied: “As long as it’s not another Live song.”

She added: “I really hate that song. They had to lie to me halfway though filming that scene because they kept making fun of it, in the performance, and they were like, ‘We’re not sure we’re gonna use this song so please stop singing it, in that voice.’ And they were lying to me, to get me to stop making fun of it.”
She returned to the topic in a video for InStyle. “Some of these songs that we have to fucking listen to,” Ricci complained. “I’m sorry, but Live was never cool. And when it came out in high school – when I was in high school – and that Live song… everyone was like, ‘Dorks all love Live’.

“And then we come to shoot that scene and everyone’s like ‘I love this song, it’s so amazing!’ I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ Do I have amnesia?”
Her Yellowjackets co-star Melanie Lynskey interjected: “I love that song.” Ricci snapped back: “No, you don’t!”
For those who disagree with Ricci’s assessment, Live have just been announced for this year’s Summer Of ‘99 Festival, which is taking place in Wisconsin in July. Nickelback and Creed are headlining, with 3 Doors Down, Daughtry and Lit also on the bill.
Yellowjackets, meanwhile, was created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and is a mystery thriller that follows a girls’ football team in 1996 who, while travelling to a tournament in Seattle, crash-land in the Canadian wilderness and are left stranded for 19 months. Between their attempts to survive, the show also jumps to their adult lives in the present day.
Early reviews of season three have been positive, with many critics claiming the show is back to its best.
