DaBaby pleads guilty to misdemeanour simple battery for allegedly sucker-punching a man in his sixties
DaBaby has pleaded guilty to misdemeanour simple battery after allegedly sucker-punching a man in his sixties.
The rapper was originally charged with felony battery in 2022, where he was accused of punching Los Angeles County rental property owner Gary Pagar. The incident allegedly occured during an unauthorised music video shoot, in which Pagar’s lawsuit claimed DaBaby rented the property for a “private vacation”, instead hosting 40 people and a film crew to shoot a music video.
When Pagar attempted to stop the music video being filmed, someone in the rapper’s crew attacked the property owner. Although DaBaby allegedly ordered the crew member to stop, Pagar alleges that the rapper went on to punch him in the face, knocking out a tooth.
TMZ has now confirmed that the rapper will take a plea deal, where he will be sentenced to one day in an LA County jail, which he has already served. DaBaby will also be given a year of probation, and will pay $10,000 (£7,700) in restitution to Pagar.
According to Rolling Stone, the rapper’s civil trial is scheduled to begin in September, where Pagar is suing DaBaby for fraud, breach of contract, and battery. NME have contacted DaBaby’s attorney for comment.
Meanwhile, DaBaby announced last night (July 12) the release of the music video of Skilla Baby’s ‘Project X (G6)’, in which he contributes a verse as a featured artist. “Had to wait till after hours to go up w/ this one,” DaBaby wrote in a social media post.
It is not the first legal dispute the rapper has found himself in. DaBaby was arrested in Miami, Florida following an alleged dispute with a music promoter over payment for a live performance in 2020. DaBaby denied involvement in the incident at the time, and was eventually found not liable for breach of contract, battery and defamation in a $6million (£4.9million) federal lawsuit.
In other news, DaBaby has said losing $200million over his homophobic rant was “a blessing in disguise”.
