Daniel Craig calls on Netflix to release ‘Knives Out 3’ in cinemas for longer

Daniel Craig has said that he hopes Netflix gives Wake Up Dead Man, aka. Knives Out 3, a longer cinema release.

Glass Onion, the most recent Knives Out instalment, did receive a theatrical release – but was only available on the big screen for a week before streaming exclusively on Netflix.

Speaking to Variety, when asked if he wishes that Wake Up Dead Man will play in cinemas for longer, Craig responded: “You know I do.”

He continued: “Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to — the fans, I suppose — all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That’s all they want to do. Hopefully we can give them that experience.”

Craig plays private detective Benoit Blanc in the murder-mystery movies, which are written and directed by The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson. Each film sees Blanc surrounded by a different cast of characters, investigating a new suspicious death.

Wake Up Dead Man, the third of Johnson’s Knives Out movies, stars Craig alongside Alien: Romulus’ Cailee Spaeny, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Josh O’Connor, Jeremy Renner and All Of Us Strangers’ Andrew Scott.

A first look at Craig in the new film was released back in June, which showed him as Blanc with a new look, complete with three-piece suit, longer hair and hat.

Before Wake Up Dead Man, Craig will next appear in Luca Guadagnino’s historical romance Queer, a historical romance based on the novella by American author William S. Burroughs. Written by Challengers’ Justin Kuritzkes, it sees Craig as Lee, an American expat in Mexico City who becomes infatuated with younger man Eugene (played by Drew Starkey).

NME gave Queer a four-star review, with Matthew Turner writing: “Craig delivers one of his best performances to date as Lee, investing him with a palpable world-weariness and making you feel every moment of hope, desire, ecstasy and crushing disappointment. ”

Queer is in cinemas from December 13. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is scheduled for release in 2025.
