Dave Grohl and members of Anthrax share Bad Brains cover
Dave Grohl and Anthrax‘s Scott Ian and Charlie Benante have shared their cover of Bad Brains‘ ‘The Regulator’.
The trio previously announced the single under their moniker G.B.I., as a Record Store Day 7 inch release.
Following its release on Saturday (April 20), yesterday (April 21) they shared the video for the track which sees Grohl singing and performing drums on the track with the two Anthrax members. You can watch it below
All proceeds from the vinyl will go towards healthcare for Bad Brains vocalist HR, who suffers from a rare neurological disorder called SUNCT.
Speaking about how the cover came about previously, Ian claimed that it happened when Anthrax and the Foos were coincidentally recording at the same time at Studio 606. When he bumped into Grohl, he text him the next day, suggesting a Minor Threat or Bad Brains cover. In response, Grohl “replied immediately with the Spotify link for ‘The Regulator’.” “I said I’d be there at 12:30pm and he said, ‘See you at 1,'” Ian revealed. “It was that simple.”
He added: “We ripped Regulator live in 2 takes, the way it should be! It was so much fun to get to play with Dave on drums and to hear his voice with my guitar! We’re all such huge Bad Brains fans and have asked WWBBD? (What would Bad Brains do?) many times. Hope you get a copy!”
Record Store Day returned for its 17th year over the weekend with fans queuing from the early hours to get their hands on special edition releases from their local independent record shops.
Some of the big names putting out special one-off collectable vinyl and cassettes for the annual event included The 1975, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Talking Heads, Paramore, Blur, Lily Allen, Gorillaz, Elton John, Paramore and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Banquet Records in Kingston said on their social media that Record Store Day ambassadors Paramore‘s split with David Byrne was the most popular special release so far. It features Paramore’s cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Burning Down The House’ while Byrne covers their song ‘Hard Times’.
Meanwhile, Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese recently recalled the unexpected moment Grohl asked him to join the band.
Foo Fighters are due to tour in the UK this summer, with the run of dates including two shows at the London Stadium. Find any remaining tickets here.
