Dave Grohl shares that he’s become a father “outside of my marriage”
Dave Grohl has shared that he has become a father outside of his marriage with his wife Jordan Blum – but is “doing everything I can to regain the trust” of his family.
The Foo Fighters frontman took to his official Instagram account today (Tuesday September 10) to reveal the news that he has become the father of a new baby girl with someone outside of his wedlock. He and Blum share three daughters – Violet, Harper and Ophelia.
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her,” he began.
“I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
Violet and Harper have since deactivated their Instagram accounts. Violet has become known in recent years for touring with Foo Fighters alongside her father and is featured on the band’s 2023 track ‘Show Me How’ from their emotional album ‘But Here We Are‘ – written in the aftermath of the loss of Grohl’s mother Virginia and late Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Dave and Blum married in their Los Angeles home on August 2, 2003. Throughout the years, Dave has been very vocal about being a father and how it has changed his life. Speaking to The Guardian in 2007, the musician shared: “[My wife] Jordyn and [daughter] Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.”
In an instalment of TIME magazine’s ’10 Questions’ column back in 2009, the ‘Learn To Fly’ singer opened up about becoming a father and shared: “I used to tour nine months out of the year. Now I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days. It’s changed everything that I do.
“When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”

In January 2021, he hailed Violet as “an incredibly talented musician” who can “pick up an instrument and learn it within a week”. He added: “To be her drummer is one of my life dreams.”
That same year, Grohl published his memoir, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music.
In other Foo Fighters news, an Irish hitchhiker who is supposedly responsible for the formation of the band in the mid-1990s was recently identified.
