The live dates are in support of his forthcoming LP ‘Luck And Strange’ which is set for release on September 6 . The album marks the musician’s first solo album in nine years, following 2015’s ‘Rattle That Lock’.
‘Luck And Strange’ was co-produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew (Alt-J, Wolf Alice). Speaking about the new working relationship in a press release, Gilmour said: “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’ and ‘Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?’”
He continued: “He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”
Gilmour shared his plans to return to the stage recently, and talked about the amendments he had made to his touring band.
“It was all too robotic, and some people would have been better off in a Pink Floyd tribute band,” he explained.
“So I thought we’d get people who are genuinely creative and give them a little more space. That’s the plan. So we’re going to have some of the younger guys alongside Guy [Pratt] and the Webb Sisters, who sang with Leonard Cohen on his last tours.”
Gilmour has also discussed the potential to have an ABBA Voyage-syle holographic Pink Floyd show, and recently contributed to a star-studded version of Mark Knopfler’s ‘Going Home’ for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
