David Lynch is announcing his new project today
David Lynch is set to announce his latest project today (June 5) and fans are speculating over what it could be.
Last Monday (May 27), the filmmaker announced the upcoming project in a video posted to X.
In the clip, the Mulholland Drive director said: “Ladies and gentlemen, something is coming along for you to see and hear and it will be coming along on June 5.”
Some fans of the rebooted ’90s television series Twin Peaks are speculating another season of the mystery drama. The original Twin Peaks ran for two seasons from 1990-1991, and the reboot aired in 2017.
Lynch’s fans have taken to social media to show their anticipation ahead of the announcement. One user wrote earlier today: “It’s 2am on June Five, I’m the only one up, & so far nothing has come along for me to see or hear yet. No rush, I’ll just be staying up all night refreshing your Twitter page. Looking forward to whatever the fuck this is!”
In response to a post asking what fans would like to see from Lynch’s announcement, one wrote: “Literally anything, it’s just so good to see him again!” while another wrote: “New Twin Peaks movie.”

I'm hoping for something completely new. Nothing to do with Twin Peaks etc. Something dredged up from the deep waters.

I think it’d be incredibly funny if he adapted Dune Messiah before Villeneuve could

However, one fan said they would like to see something original from the Eraserhead creator: “I’m hoping for something completely new. Nothing to do with Twin Peaks etc. Something dredged up from the deep waters.”
Others have referenced Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Fran Herbert’s sci-fi novel, Dune, which has since been adapted by Denis Villeneuve into two hit movies starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
One user spoke about the next instalment in the franchise, writing: “I think it’d be incredibly funny if he adapted Dune Messiah before Villeneuve could”.
Lynch has previously hinted at a return to the series, telling fans at a book signing in 2018 that the story “is calling, but there are a lot of disturbances”.
The show’s star Kyle MacLachlan also spoke about a fourth season, saying in 2018: “I think those kinds of things are certainly possible. I think we’re all just waiting on David to have the spark of an idea to go forward. It’d be a great journey. I would drop everything to do that.”
Elsewhere, earlier this year MacLachlan shared the 10 films that he believes would be his Twin Peaks character Dale Cooper‘s top picks.
