‘Death Stranding 2’ promises 2025 release date, shows off new footage
Hideo Kojima has confirmed that Death Stranding 2 has a release date – but he’s keeping it secret for the time being.
After lots of speculation, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was officially announced at the end of 2022. Earlier this year, it was confirmed the game would be released at some point in 2025 but after radio silence, some fans began to suspect the sequel might be delayed.
However at the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima confirmed the game was still on track for a 2025 launch. “I haven’t said the release date today, but the release date has already been decided, and I’m currently working on it in preparation for that,” he said yesterday (September 29).
“It will be released next year, so we will announce [the release date] at some point next year. But, due to some unforeseen circumstances, we cannot announce it today,” he added (via VGC).
To keep fans happy though, the special presentation did feature almost eight-minutes of new footage which has since been uploaded to social media.
The various clips feature cut-scenes from Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. One sees reanimated puppet Dollman and Shioli Kutsuna’s Rainy singing a version of B.J. Thomas’ ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head’ while another sees the puppet dancing alongside holograms of himself and Japanese pop star Daichi Miura to an original track called ‘Horizon Dreamer’.

As well as the sequel to Death Stranding, Kojima is also working on a big screen adaptation alongside A24. “Their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative,” he said. “Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last eight years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together.”
In other news, Tony Hawk has celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Pro Skater series with a throwback post that also hints at a “future” for the skating franchise.
