‘Demon Slayer’ Japan-only specials now available to stream in UK

Five TV specials from the Demon Slayer universe that were previously available only in Japan are now streaming in the UK.

On Sunday (April 6), Crunchyroll announced that fans of the hit anime series will now be able to watch Sibling’s Bond, Mt. Natagumo Arc, the Hashira Meeting Arc, Asakusa Arc and Tsuzumi Mansion Arc with subtitles on the streaming service.

The five specials cover the events of the first season of the show, which was first released in 2019. At between 90 and 150 minutes in length each, they offer viewers an opportunity to watch a fast-paced recap of the story of the opening season before catching the upcoming new material.

Three more seasons of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba have since been released – the Entertainment District Arc, the Swordsmith Village Arc and the Hashira Training Arc.

It has been confirmed that the next instalment of Demon Slayer will arrive on September 12 this year, with the first of three theatrical films that together will make up the Infinity Castle Arc.

In addition to the existing seasons, Demon Slayer also scored a huge hit at the cinematic box office in 2020 with Mugen Train, which made over $450million (£360million) and became the highest grossing Japanese film of all time.

The saga is based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotoge, published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint. The entire series consists of 23 volumes and to date has sold over 150 million copies.

The resident composers on Demon Slayer are Yuki Kajiura (Fate/ZeroSword Art Online) and Go Shiina (TekkenAce Combat). In addition to their contributions, the show has made memorable use of opening and closing theme songs in each of its seasons, which you can read about here.
