Dinosaur expert “super impressed” by how realistic ‘Monster Hunter’ actually is
Paleontologist Dr. Darren Naish has given his verdict on how realistic the Monster Hunter games are – and he’s “super impressed”.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter series is set in the fantastical world where humans and monsters attempt to live side-by-side. Wilds, the latest entry in the long-running franchise, was released last week with developers looking to create a series of believable environments for fire-breathing dragons and other beasties to exist in.
As part of PC Gamer’s new Reality Check video series, paleontologist and self-described monster expert Dr. Darren Naish has given his verdict on some classic Monster Hunter creatures. After picking apart the Kulu Ya Ku, Rathlos, Diablos, Anjanath, Great Jagrath, Tigrex, Magnamalo and Nirgigante, Naish revealed he was “super impressed” with the series.
“I really liked the intricacies, the level of detail in the world building,” he explained. “I like the fact that almost every aspect of the creatures actually has an explanation. And to me, the creatures don’t look silly [or] non-believable. They make sense from a creature design point of view, so I’m a fan.”
Monster Hunter Wilds had an absolutely huge launch last week (February 28) and has gone on to rack up more than 1million concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the most popular games in the platform’s history.
In a four-star review, NME wrote: “Monster Hunter Wilds is still a worthy successor to World, focusing on the best aspects of the series such as the customisation and combat and refining them to create an unforgettable experience.” However some players have had issues with performance, with Capcom revealing a number of steps to try and fix the problem.
In other news, Microsoft has confirmed what titles will be leaving Xbox Game Pass later this month – and the list includes a few fan-favourites.
