Donald Trump has named Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight his “special ambassadors” of Hollywood.

“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform on Thursday (January 16).

“They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!

“These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”

The president-elect’s comments about resurrecting Hollywood come at a trying time. The domestic box office was down in 2024 compared to the year before, and there were also fewer releases, owing to the 2023 actors and writers’ strikes.

Likewise, unprecedented wildfires have destroyed thousands of homes and buildings in Los Angeles. Many public figures have been affected, with Paris Hilton recently opening up about watching her home burn down on television, while James Woods, Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes and Mark Hamill are among the other high-profile names to have been badly affected.

Gibson himself also recently revealed that his home was destroyed by the fires while he was away recording an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, in which the Braveheart star criticised the California governor Gavin Newsom, saying he said “he was going to take care of the forests” but “didn’t do anything”.

“I think all our tax dollars probably went for Gavin’s hair gel,” the actor quipped.

Gibson reportedly found out about the special envoy position at the same time as Trump’s social media followers, telling Variety: “I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call.

“My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can,” he said, before joking: “Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?”

Trump is now gearing up for several inauguration events, with Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus among the new names confirmed for the proceedings.

The official swearing-in ceremony will be taking place on Monday (January 20), and it was confirmed earlier this week that Carrie Underwood will be the musical guest performer for the main ceremony where Trump becomes the 47th President of the United States – set to sing ‘America the Beautiful’ on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

Earlier this week, Village People addressed their upcoming performance at Donald Trump‘s inauguration and said that they agreed as they think “music is to be performed without regard to politics”. Whoopi Goldberg also weighed in and defended Carrie Underwood’s decision to perform at the event, but added that she will not be watching.
