Donald Trump says Taylor Swift will “probably pay a price” for endorsing Kamala Harris
Donald Trump has opened up about Taylor Swift endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, sharing that the singer will “probably pay a price”.
Last night (September 10), Trump and Harris went head to head in Philadelphia in their first, and potentially only debate. It comes as both were virtually tied in the polls, with voters set to cast their votes on November 5.
During the debate, Trump mostly reiterated the rhetoric from his rallies, while Harris used her platform to share her plans for the country and address criticisms she has received throughout her campaign. One of the most talked about moments of the night was when the former president attempted to push now-debunked claims about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, who were accused of abducting local pets and eating them.
Following the debate, Swift took to her official Instagram account to share her support for Harris. The comments come just two months ahead of the election.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” read the caption of her post.
She also urged fans to do their own research and make their own decisions on who to vote for, while reminding first-time voters to register and signed her post off as “Childless Cat Lady” – a reference used by Trump’s running mate Sen. JD Vance to describe women who don’t have kids.
Now, the morning after the debate, Trump called in to “Fox & Friends” (as per Variety) and addressed the pop star’s endorsement of Harris. “I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” he began. “It was just a question of time. She couldn’t possibly endorse Biden… But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
Back in February, Trump responded to claims that Joe Biden was seeking endorsement from the pop star to swing the next election in a series of strange posts where he claimed he made Swift “so much money”, and was fond of her boyfriend – “even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!”
In June, the former president took a moment to comment on Swift’s appearance in the upcoming book titled Apprentice In Wonderland: How Donald Trump And Mark Burnett Took America Through The Looking Glass, calling her “unusually beautiful” and also questioned whether her political stance is “just an act”.
Last month, Trump addressed the controversy around the AI images of Taylor Swift endorsing his campaign, claiming, “I didn’t generate them”.
He previously shared fake AI-generated images on his Truth Social Account that suggested the singer had endorsed his 2024 presidential campaign. They included screenshots of women wearing shirts with the slogan ‘Swifties For Trump’, and an image of Swift made up like Uncle Sam, with the banner: “Taylor wants you to vote for Trump”.
Swift responded to the AI images in her endorsement of Harris and shared: “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
