‘Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’ is now ‘Dragon Age: The Veilguard’
BioWare has announced that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will now be known as Dragon Age: The Veilguard to reflect the narrative of the game.
Dragon Age 4 was revealed in June 2022 as Dreadwolf, with developers working to create a game that appealed to both veterans and newcomers to the franchise. After lay-offs at BioWare, the game was delayed but now the studio has returned with some positive news.
Ahead of a 15-minute gameplay trailer that’s due to be revealed next week, Bioware has confirmed that Dreadwolf will now be called The Veilguard. In the world of Dragon Age, the Veil is the magical barrier that separates the normal world from the mystical Fade (via Eurogamer).

Confirming the name change in a dedicated blog, BioWare boss Gary McKay explained that “the original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories and how you’ll need to bring them together to save all of Thedas.”
McKay went on to say that the studio experimented with a variety of ideas, including a multiplayer Dragon Age, before settling on an “incredible single player game, with all the choices, characters and world building you’d expect from us.”
“Set in the world of Thedas, [Dragon Age] tales explore epic locales and threats, always thrusting you into a new conflict. Each game also introduces a new lead hero that you can call your own,” he added. “You can expect all that, and more, with the new game. It wouldn’t be a Dragon Age game without an amazing cast of companions – right?”
Several people here just started emitting high-pitched squeals of joy.

“Each of the seven unique characters that make up your companions [in Dragon Age: The Veilguard] will have deep and compelling storylines where the decisions you make will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives,” McKay wrote. “You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions – not your enemies – are the heart of this new experience.”
The gameplay trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be revealed on Tuesday June 11 at 4pm GMT. “This moment means so much to everyone at BioWare, and we wouldn’t be here without you. We’re ready to have some fun, so join the chat early…we’ve got a few special surprises for you,” McKay promised.
In other news, Square Enix has promised fans can expect a smooth launch of the upcoming Final Fantasy 14 expansion Dawntrail.
