Drew Carey says Phish at the Sphere makes U2 “look like a bar band”

US game show host Drew Carey has compared watching Phish and U2 performing live at the Sphere in Las Vegas – see what he had to say below.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s Phish Radio show recently, Carey spoke of watching U2 perform at the new Las Vegas venue, followed by Phish. Carey, a stranger to Phish until recently, said that he was a “casual” fan of U2, and had gone to their show at the Sphere after being talked into it by a fan. He was admittedly “blown away” at first, before retracting the statement after seeing Phish’s performance.

“It blew my mind how great it was,” he said. “I told all my friends and The Price Is Right audience how great it was… I went the next two weekends in a row. Then, three songs into Thursday night with Phish at the Sphere, I honestly was kinda mad. I wanted to call U2 and get my money back. It made them look like a bar band.”

Carey then went on to explain that while he thinks U2 still put on a “great show”, Phish made better use of the state-of-the-art venue: “Nothing against U2, it was a great show. I think Phish took full advantage of the audio and the video in that place and what could possibly be done. Now my mind is spinning about things I want to see at the Sphere.”

Carey’s comparison of U2 and Phish at the Sphere comes after he previously proclaimed last month that he would “stick his dick in a blender” after seeing Phish. After being introduced to the band at the Sphere, Phish took the liberty of sending him a blender and signed it too.

Carey further discussed attending the Phish show during an appearance on the CBS panel show After Midnight last month. “I saw Phish at the Sphere this weekend. Never saw Phish. Didn’t know a Phish tune. And they blew my mind off so hard,” he said.

“It was like being edged for four days straight. And then right before the face-melting climax at the end of the fourth day, an angel comes down from heaven, Gabriel, and he shoots fucking heroin in your arm, and he says, ‘Good luck now!’ And he leaves. And then you have an orgasm for 15 minutes while your eyeballs fall out of your head.”

Phish are set to release their 16th studio album, ‘Evolve’, on July 12, with the title track having been released as a lead single earlier this month.
