Ed Sheeran Plays ‘Pokémon Stadium’ In a Stadium: ‘If I Wasn’t a Musician, I’d Be a Virgin’

Here’s the thing: when you’re a pop star you get to do things that most mortals never get to. And when you’re a gamer pop star you get to do some of those things in a giant stadium while chilling out before your show. At least Ed Sheeran does.

The singer posted an Instagram video on Sunday in which he’s casually sitting criss-cross apple sauce on the floor of a stadium playing, of course, Pokémon Stadium on his Switch while waxing rhapsodic about his rock star status. “If I wasn’t a musician, I’d be a virgin,” Sheeran, 33, says with a smile as he mashes buttons while his game plays out on the stadium’s massive LED screen.

The replies were hilarious.

“Harry said the same thing,” wrote one fan, referring to a similar comment from Harry Styles in 2020, while others offered such quips as: “you’d get along well with my brother,” “This is a MASSIVE flex,” “why are u running double edge on ivysaur,” “this is the dream for every child who grew up in the 90s,” “If I have to chose between pokemon stadium and sex I guess this is the end of the bloodline for me” and “HAHAHA YO THATS ME.”

When he’s not playing games, Sheeran is plugging along on his global Mathematics tour, which will hit the Hipodrom in Zagreb, Croatia on August 10 before moving on to the Frequency Festival in Greenpark St. Polten in Austria on August 14. Sheeran will stay on the road through a Sept. 19 gig at Rock in Rio in Brazil before taking some time of before returning to stadiums in May 2025 with a show in Madrid, Spain.
