‘Elden Ring’ boss wants you to play without using guides
Elden Ring and other FromSoftware games are infamously difficult to beat, so many players use guides to help give them the edge. Well, Director Hidetaka Miyazaki knows this, but he wants to “embrace” those who don’t.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Miyazaki said: “Of course players are going to consult guides, and there’s going to be a wealth of information on the web and in their communities where they have access to the secrets and the strategies. We expect that.”
He continued: “But we don’t make or plan anything with that as a prerequisite. If anything, we try to cater to the player who is completely blind and wants to go through organically. If they can’t do it, then there’s some room for improvement on our behalf, and we’d like to try to embrace those players more in the future.”
With Shadow of the Erdtree, Elden Ring‘s upcoming DLC launching Friday June 21, 2024, players who have already sunk dozens of hours should be able to complete the expansion without the need for guides, Miyazaki says. He added: “We don’t necessarily cater to players who are reading guides as they go. Of course, it’s a perfectly valid playstyle, and we respect those players who like to approach it with a guide in hand. We just want to let you know it’s not our prerequisite, designing the game in their favor.”
If you’ve not tried Elden Ring yet and want to get stuck in ahead of the upcoming DLC, there are some tips you should know before you play. Don’t worry, Miyazaki won’t mind you using a guide.
In other news, Starfield has been review bombed on Steam following paid mods being added to the game.
