‘Elden Ring’ confirms multiplayer spin-off ‘Nightreign’

Elden Ring: Nightreign

Despite the massive Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC only dropping a few months ago, the team behind Elden Ring are already working on a new game – Nightreign.

Elden Ring: Nightreign was confirmed at The Game Awards last night (December 12) and will be released at some point next year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Nightreign is a co-op multiplayer combat game, with players teaming up to survive the night. “You will have to make split-second decisions when it comes to combat and exploration in the face of a night cycle that shrinks the map with the coming Night’s Tide,” reads the official description.

“At the end of each night, players will face a powerful boss and, if victorious, awaken to bigger challenges.” Players will form groups of three to take on the night, though the game can also be played solo.

Despite the success of Elden Ring and The Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion, Nightreign has been crafted to “offer players a new gaming experience by reimagining the game’s core design.”

“I created Nightreign to be a new thrilling type of gameplay with that familiar sense of accomplishment and overcoming tough odds that players are familiar with,” game director Junya Ishizaki told IGN. Elden Ring: Nightreign has taken influence from “a whole range of titles and genres”.

“We don’t tend to look at the industry and base our game design or our concerns on what’s going on in that sort of, more general sense. We feel like if we’re making something we’re passionate about and that we want to make and that we enjoy playing, we trust the users will share in that experience and hopefully enjoy it as well,” he continued.

“Also, we want to be clear that Nightreign is not like a live service game. Once you buy Nightreign, you get the complete package. Everything is unlockable out of the gate.”

Earlier this year, Elden Ring boss Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that Shadow Of The Erdtree was the first and only expansion in the works. “We don’t have any current plans to make a second DLC or a sequel, but we definitely don’t want to snuff out that possibility. We think that there could well be something in the future,” he added.

In other news, The Witcher 4 has officially been confirmed, via an epic six-minute video featuring a grown-up Ciri.
