‘Elden Ring’ is the biggest selling game of the summer
Elden Ring has become the biggest selling game of the summer following the release of the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion.
Originally released in February 2022, Elden Ring returned to the top of the best sellers list in North America this June according to Circana, a leading global market research company.
The list tracks dollar sales from both physical and digital sales between June 2 and July 6, with the information acquired from the Nintendo eShop, Playstation and Xbox’s online store and Steam. The boost in Elden Ring’s popularity comes after the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion was released June 21. As reported by IGN, the DLC sold over 5million copies in its first three days.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 jumped from number 3 to number 2, ahead of the game being made available on Xbox Game Pass from July 24 while both EA Sports FC 24 and Minecraft remained in the Top 10, at nine and six respectively.
The chart also saw new entries from Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, while Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece jumped from 399 to three. The collection, which brings together Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III, was previously only available for the Nintendo Switch before it launched on Steam on June 13.
The Top 10 best selling games of June 2024 are:
- Elden Ring
- Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III
- Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece
- Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Minecraft
- MLB: The Show 24

The sales of Shadow Of The Erdtree means Elden Ring is now the fifth best-selling game of 2024, behind MLB: The Show 24, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Modern Warfare 3, with Helldivers 2 still topping the chart despite a drop-off in players.
Last month, FromSoftware shared its second update since the release of Shadow Of The Erdtree which fixed a number of bugs and rebalanced several weapons while one player threatened to sue the studio because they found the game too difficult.
In other news, a new mod for Fallout: London has caused a rift between American and English players after it changed every reference of “football” to “soccer”.
