Ellie Goulding has teased that a “very personal” new album is on the way.

The pop singer first hinted at new material back in September, when she took to her official Instagram stories to share that she was “working her way back slowly” as she boxed and worked out.

She went on to say it would “take a minute” as she was busy creating new music, and also shared clips of her scrolling through tracks on her iTunes which appeared to be voice note recordings, all titled “new recording”.

Her last full-length release was 2023’s ‘Higher Than Heaven’. In a four-star review of the LPNME shared: “‘Higher Than Heaven’ may not be strictly personal, but it definitely sounds like an album crafted with care, skill and no small amount of flair.”

Now, according to a new interview in The Sun, the ‘Anything Could Happen’ hitmaker is working on something different, saying her last record was “intentionally impersonal”.

“I’ve been writing about what’s been going on in my life,” Goulding told the publication, although she didn’t give a prospective release date. “But also just observations, friends, my connection with nature — the usual things that I tend to gravitate towards writing about, maybe slightly more elevated or evolved from the last album.”

She added: “Songs don’t come that easily to me, especially when they’re from more of a personal place. Sometimes the best songs come from just sitting around, drinking tea, talking. It’s been time-consuming, but it’s time that I’ve needed to take.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Goulding also revealed that she had a secret project in the works, saying: “I’ve made a classical album that’s not out yet. I have a huge passion for classical music.”

She also touched on her collab track ‘Free’ with Calvin Harris, which was released back in July. “We just understand each other and it’s easy. I don’t take that for granted because being in the studio with people for the first time is like having a first date, basically,” shesaid.

She and Harris joined forces last year to release chart-topping hit ‘Miracle’, which the latter said at the time marked the completion of a “trilogy” of tunes between the two, following 2012’s ‘I Need Your Love’ and 2014’s ‘Outside’.
