That’s according to Sandler himself, who will reprise his iconic role for an upcoming sequel to the beloved 1996 comedy film. Speaking on The Dan Patrick Show, Sandler revealed that Eminem filmed a day’s worth of footage for the comedy sequel.
While Sandler did not reveal the role Eminem plays or the extent of the rapper’s involvement in the film’s plot, he said: “Eminem was cool. He came by, he was great. I’ve known Eminem for a long time, he’s a great guy and he came in and was funny as hell.”
Sandler continued: “I think we just hung out a day with Eminem and he just shot and shot and he was insane. He said a million things we can use and a million that we’re glad we have him on tape.”
This isn’t the first time Eminem will appear on film with Adam Sandler. In 2009, the rapper made a brief cameo in Sandler’s Funny People. Though mainly known as a rapper, Eminem has several acting credits, including his semi-biopic 8 Mile.
Other acting roles include appearances in Entourage and The Interview. Other roles Eminem was offered or eyed for but ultimately turned down include 2008’s Jumper and 2013’s Elysium.
Besides Adam Sandler and Eminem, Happy Gilmore 2 will also include Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce and Margaret Qualley. Qualley recently revealed that her role was landed by her husband Jack Antonoff, who lied to Sandler that she was a good golfer: “What a good husband. And I can’t golf. He lied for the sake of the family… I never golfed a day in my life. I’m terrible, actually.”
She went on to say the role was “the best thing that’s ever happened to me”. She added: “I’m essentially deep background, but I can die happy now.”
A release date for Happy Gilmore 2 has yet to be announced.
The original film starred Sandler as the titular Happy Gilmore, a hockey player with anger management issues who discovers he’s also good at golf. Gilmore enters a golf tournament to win money to save his grandmother’s house, facing off with the arrogant Shooter McGavin along the way. The film also starred Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Carl Weathers and Bob Barker.
