Eminem Learns He’s Going to Be a Grandpa in ‘Temporary’ Video Starring Daughter Hailie Jade
Someone grab the Kleenex. Eminem released his poignant “Temporary” video starring his daughter Hailie Jade on Thursday (Oct. 3).
Slim Shady goes back in time with plenty of home video footage, showing Hailie growing up as a child to her walking down the aisle at her wedding earlier this year. Recitals, birthday parties, backyard hangouts, graduations and more flash by in the blink of an eye before Em’s standing in front of his daughter in her wedding gown.
Hailie Jade surprises her dad with the news that Eminem’s going to be a grandpa. She gifts him a Detroit Lions jersey but Em nearly breaks down when realizing the back of the jersey says “Grandpa” with the No. 1.
The emotions continue to pour out as the scene switches to a teary-eyed Em enjoying his first daddy-daughter dance with Hailey at her wedding. There’s a final flashback to a heartwarming card Hailey penned for Em on a Father’s Day when she was a kid.
“Thank you for everything you do and always being there for all of us girls. You truly are the best dad in the world. Love you forever + 100 million dollars forever and always,” she wrote.
The Skylar Grey-assisted “Temporary” landed on Em’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in July. The vulnerable track debuted at No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Hailie Jade reflected on hearing “Temporary” for the first time over the summer on her Just a Little Shady podcast.
“I audibly sobbed… I think for both songs, but especially ‘Temporary,'” she said. Hailie went on to praise her parents for “doing such a good job” and attempting to shield her from the reality of “how bad things were” between them.
