Eminem Pranks Fans With April Fools’ Day Album Announcement
It’s been four years since Eminem’s last LP, and he pranked fans with an album announcement trailer to celebrate April Fools’ Day. Slim Shady dropped a trailer on Monday (April 1) initially soundtracked by “Crack A Bottle” and filled with fan comments pleading with him to drop his next album.
Unfortunately, the Detroit legend leaned into April Fools’ Day and took it back to his overlooked Infinite debut album in 1996, which never touched the Billboard 200 charts.
“The highly-anticipated next studio album goes back to where it all started. Infinite but now it’s even more infinite,” a cinematic narrator said in the clip filled with explosive drops. “Out today.”
However, not all hope is lost for an Eminem album, as Dr. Dre revealed that Em is planning to drop an album later this year.
“Let me tell you something, let me explain something to you right now: Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year,” Dre said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last month. “And I actually talked to him and he said it okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show. So he has an album coming out, I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire. I’m actually gonna hear the entire album for the first time for tomorrow.”
The West Coast legend continued: “[Eminem] holds his music close to his chest so I haven’t heard everything. I haven’t even heard everything complete that I’ve done, but I’m gonna hear it, and he’s putting out an album this year.”
Eminem’s untitled 12th studio album will serve as the follow-up to 2020’s Music to Be Murdered By, which was a surprise release in January of that year and debuted atop the Billboard 200. The LP featured guest appearances from Ed Sheeran, Juice WRLD, Q-Tip, Anderson .Paak and more.
