Emmanuel Macron wants ‘Emily In Paris’ to shoot in France again – despite Parisians’ distaste for the Netflix series
Emmanuel Macron wants Emily In Paris to return to France.
The rom-com drama series stars Lily Collins as marketing executive Emily Cooper, who moves to Paris to provide an American perspective for a French marketing firm. It has been filmed in France for four seasons.
But Netflix recently confirmed that it will be moving to Rome for season five.
It comes after the show experienced a backlash earlier this year for perpetuating French stereotypes resulting in locals spraying graffiti on various locations used in the series.
Pictures showed a shoe shop which had been smeared with the words “Emily fuck off” and “South Paris is not yours”.
The store is said to sit in the same square as Emily’s house in the show, with the character living above a nearby restaurant.
But the French President, whose wife Brigitte made a cameo in the fourth season, has said the series should remain in Paris.
He told Variety: “Emily In Paris is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For my own business, it’s a very good initiative.”
Macron added: “We will fight hard. And we will ask them to remain in Paris! Emily In Paris, in Rome doesn‘t make sense.”
In a three-star review of the third season, NME praised the show’s costume design: “Patricia Field, the brilliant costume designer who made Sex and the City, the most fashion-forward show of its era, continues to ace the assignment here by dressing these characters in fabulously impractical outfits.”
Meanwhile, Lily Collins also recently revealed her favourite song by her father Phil Collins.
