Empire Of The Sun share reflective single ‘Music On The Radio’ and announce their first album in eight years, ‘Ask That God’
Empire Of The Sun have announced their first album in eight years, ‘Ask That God’, and shared their joyful new single ‘Music On The Radio’.
The Aussie duo have shared details of their long-awaited fourth studio album, which is set to drop July 26 (pre-order/pre-save here).
Nick Littlemore says of the new album: “It has been a journey unlike any other that Empire Of The Sun has undertaken. We always ‘go there’ when it comes to exploration of both the self and the outside world. This body of work represents the greatest shift in consciousness our world has ever seen and that’s reflected in the music.”
Bandmate Luke Steele adds: “’Ask That God; is an album we searched for and were thankfully blessed with. We are nothing more than conduits, gathering experience and finding what is meant for the Empire to find.”
The pair have also shared its next single ‘Music On The Radio’, which sees the band accepting what they can’t change in life: “I don’t like the music on the radio / They don’t play my song / I don’t like the music on the radio / But I sing along.”
“To me this song is like a teenager rebelling against his imaginary emotions. It’s penned in only that unique way Lord Littlemore can bring words to life,” Steele says of the song. “The bass wraps it’s arms around you in some kind of hypnotic groove and you’re powerless to its charms.” Take a listen to ‘Music On The Radio’ below:
Previously, Empire Of The Sun released their first single ‘Changes‘ in April, which they described as their “breakthrough track”.
Littlemore said: “‘Changes’ represents the shifting sands of time, empires rise and fall but the sun shall shine on. Come once more into the world we’ve created, delve deeper within and be rewarded with its ever expanding story, each and every one is invited to explore the new era.”
Steele added: “Changes was a breakthrough track for us. It felt like the moment of clarity when it became evident we were in the new era, our time of rebirth, the next chapter of Empire.”
Emperor Of The Sun’s last album release was 2016’s ‘Two Vines‘. In a two-star review of the LP, NME shared: “The album was made, in part, in Hawaii. Steele would surf in the morning and retreat to the studio later on. It’s the kind of idyllic setting where days simply just pass by. Unfortunately, too many of the tracks on ‘Two Vines’ do exactly the same.”
In other news, last year, the duo teamed up with Pnau (Littlemore’s other band) on a new collaborative single, ‘AEIOU’.
The song marked the first-ever time the two projects have come together and appeared on Pnau’s sixth studio album ‘Hyperbolic’, which was released last month.
