'Demon Slayer' season four

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the most beloved anime series of all time, but what songs have served as its theme over the years? Read on to find out.

The saga is based on the manga series by Koyoharu Gotoge, published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint, and so far consists of four seasons, all of which are available to stream on Crunchyroll in the UK.

After the conclusion of season four – the Hashira Training Arc – in June 2024, it was announced that the next instalment of Demon Slayer will arrive in 2025, in the form of a film trilogy adaptation of the Infinity Castle arc.

In addition to the existing seasons, Demon Slayer also scored a huge hit at the cinematic box office in 2020 with Mugen Train, which made over $450million (£360million) and became the highest grossing Japanese film of all time.

The resident composers on Demon Slayer are Yuki Kajiura (Fate/Zero, Sword Art Online) and Go Shiina (Tekken, Ace Combat). In addition to their contributions, the show has made memorable use of opening and closing theme songs in each of its seasons.

Season one of the show, also known as Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc, ran from April to September 2019. That season’s opening theme song was ‘Gurenge’ by the Japanese pop singer Lisa, a song taken from her fifth studio album ‘Leo-Nine’.

Lisa also lent vocals to the season’s closing theme – ‘From The Edge’ by FictionJunction, the alias of Japanese composer Yuki Kajiura. Episode 19 of season one had its own closing theme, in the form of ‘Kamado Tanjiro No Uta’ by Go Shiina featuring Nami Nakagawa.

Season two was split into two parts. For the Mugen Train arc, Lisa returned once again for the opening theme ‘Akeboshi’ and the closing theme ‘Shirogane’. The second half, known as the Entertainment District arc, the opening theme was Japanese pop singer Aimer’s ‘Zankyosanka’, while Aimer also contributed the closing theme of ‘Asa Ga Kuru’.

For season three, the Swordsmith Village arc, the opening theme was ‘Kizuna No Kiseki’, performed by alt-metal band Man With A Mission alongside indie pop singer Milet. The two artists also collaborated on the season’s closing theme, ‘Koi Kogare’. The final episode of the season proved to be an exception, with ‘Kamado Nezuko No Uta’ by Go Shiina and Nami Nakagawa closing out the season’s final moments.

2024’s fourth season, the Hashira Training arc, the post-hardcore band My First Story and alt-rock singer Hyde contributed the opening theme ‘Mugen’ as well as the closing theme ‘Tokoshie’.
