Ex-(G)I-DLE member Soojin teases solo debut with cryptic ‘Black Forest’ video
South Korean singer Soojin, an ex-member of girl group (G)I-DLE, has teased her much-anticipated solo debut with a mysterious video, titled ‘Black Forest’.
Soojin released a cryptic two-minute clip on her new Instagram and YouTube pages today (October 25). The monochrome video features the K-pop idol on a bare set, performing an original contemporary dance to dramatic instrumental music, before two masked back-up dancers join her in the second half.
Apart from the dance video, which has been titled ‘Black Forest’, no other details about her much anticipated solo debut have been revealed as of writing. However, alongside the new teaser, official company-managed Instagram and YouTube accounts were simultaneously established.
The surprise release of new content featuring Soojin comes only a week after Korean media reported that the singer was “quietly preparing to make a solo comeback”. According to these reports, Soojin is slated to release new music later this month, however these details have yet to be confirmed.
Other reports about Soojin last week also claimed that Soojin is now signed under a music label known only as BRD Communications, which has now been confirmed by her new official social media accounts.
Soojin first made her debut in 2018 as a member of (G)I-DLE under CUBE Entertainment. In February 2021, Soojin became the subject of bullying allegations by former classmates, resulting in her going on hiatus the following month. Soojin would leave both the group and the K-pop agency in August 2021.
Following her departure from the girl group, Soojin remained largely out of the public eye until June 2023, when she made a quiet comeback to social media with the launch of a personal Instagram account. ‘Black Forest’ will officially mark her first solo music and release since the controversy and her controversial departure from (G)I-DLE.
