‘Fable’ release window, story details, gameplay, and everything we know
Fable has been a long time coming. Originally rumoured more than half a decade ago, the reboot of the series was fully unveiled in 2020, and in recent years we have seen more and more of the game. From the atmosphere, to the trademark British humour, it looks like Playground Games is hitting all the right notes.
Below, you can find out all the story details Playground Games has shared about the reboot, when it is coming out, and get a look at the trailers so far.
‘Fable’ release window
Fable will be released in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as launching day one on Game Pass. This was confirmed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 on June 9, 2024.
The game has had a long road to release, originally being announced back in 2020, and teased even earlier in 2018. But it seems like it might finally be time for it to arrive, as the majority of Playground Games appear to be working on it after releasing Forza Horizon 5 in 2021.
‘Fable’ Story details
Not much is known about the story just yet in Fable. However, the trailer from the Xbox Games Showcase in 2024 did give us some clues. In this trailer, we meet Humphrey (played by UK comedian Matt King) who was once the land of Albion’s greatest hero. Now retired, he and your character are thrust into the fray to save Albion when a mysterious figure from his past threatens the very existence of the land.
In the 2023 trailer for the game, we also got a look at Dave, a gardener-turned-giant with a chip on his shoulder, giving the game two well known British comedian stars. With a trend starting to take shape, we could potentially expect more famous faces to show up.
‘Fable’ gameplay
We haven’t seen much of the gameplay in Fable, however, the 2024 trailer tease some of what to expect. The game definitely is still leaning on its character-driven RPG legacy, with a focus on how your reputation as a hero will attract your fans, haters, and chancers as they seek your friendship or demise.
We also got a brief look at combat, which appears to offer a solid mix of melee and spellcasting to build a character the way you want to play.
While, we haven’t seen much else, the game visually looks fantastic, and we can expect a much deeper dive into it next year ahead of its release date. Alongside Playground Games, Eidos-Montreal has announced that it is also working on the game, supporting the team.
On top of Fable, so much more was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, and you can catch up on every announcement here.
