Fan favourite ‘Peaky Blinders’ star confirms they won’t be back for movie: “It didn’t pan out”

A Peaky Blinders movie is on the way, but one of its stars has revealed that their beloved character will not be involved.

The sixth season of the Steven Knight-penned drama series aired in 2022, and shortly afterwards it was confirmed that instead of a seventh season, the story of Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby and his criminal gang would be finished up with a feature film.

The movie, titled The Immortal Man, will be set a few years after the conclusion of season six and it began filming in September.

Now, Kate Phillips, who played Linda Shelby, the wife of Paul Anderson’s Arthur, has confirmed in an interview with Radio Times that she is not involved in the film, despite being involved in negotiations at one stage.

“There were discussions and then it didn’t pan out,” she said. “It was such an amazing show to be part of and Steven Knight still continues to have ideas for the life and the future of Peaky Blinders, and that’s always lovely to kind of engage with his hopes and dreams for the show.”

“But the life of an actor is, you’re sort of always at the behest of other people’s visions, and sometimes it’s very much a wait and see kind of game,” she added. “But I’m excited to see the film. I have read it, but I’m excited to see how it turns out on the big screen, I’m sure it will be amazing.”

Linda Shelby left Arthur in season five after trying to kill him and was last seen at Tommy’s farewell dinner at the end of season six, where Tommy told her to look after Arthur when he was gone.

Netflix are overseeing the film, and it does not yet have a release date, although last month, Knight said it will be released “in about a year”. As well as Murphy, it has been confirmed that Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy and Ian Peck are all returning.

They will be joined by new additions in the form of Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson and Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan, as well as Tim Roth and Jay Lycurgo.
