Father John Misty shares reflective new single ‘I Guess Time Just Makes Fools Of Us All’ from new “Greatish Hits” album
Father John Misty has today (July 31) shared a reflective new single, ‘I Guess Time Just Makes Fools Of Us All’ while also unveiling details of a new ‘Greatish Hits’ album.
The musician – real name Josh Tillman – unveiled the standalone single while announcing details of a greatest hits compilation called ‘Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams And My Dreams Said To Crawl’. The album is released digitally today via Bella Union and will arrive physically on August 16.
Tillman had been teasing the new track and compilation over the last month and sent a text to fans on his mailing list with a link to the song and a cryptic tease of something more to come.
The collection is a career spanning set of songs taken from his five albums to date: ‘Fear Fun’ (2012), ‘I Love You, Honeybear’ (2015), ‘Pure Comedy’ (2017), ‘God’s Favorite Customer’ (2018), and ‘Chloë and The Next 20th Century’ (2022).
The album also sees the inclusion of fan-favourite, 2016’s ‘Real Love Baby’ on an album release for the first time.
‘I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All’ closes the compilation but this track will also feature on a new album coming “later this year” from Tillman, according to a new press release. Tillman performed the new song live a number of times in 2019 and then again at a handful of 2023 shows.

Back in June, the artist teased two new songs with short clips posted on social media, one of which fans speculated was titled ‘Josh Tillman And The Accidental Dose’.
Last year, Misty was one of Lana Del Rey‘s support acts for her BST Hyde Park headline performance. This came after the pair united on Del Rey’s 2023 album ‘Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd’ for the duet ‘Let The Light In‘.
Father John Misty’s most recent album, ‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’, was released in 2022 and received five-stars from NME. In the review, Sophie Williams wrote: “‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’ showcases what Tillman’s imagination can do when it is set free to explore new and unpredictable sonic paths.
“‘Olvidado (Otro Momento)’, a shimmying bossa nova track that sees him sing in Spanish, never settles entirely, expanding its woozy ambience into a thick beat made up of quietly vast percussive flourishes. It’s a perfect example of how nothing on this album ends up quite where you’d expect it – including the ever-evolving artist who made it.”
