Focus Turns to India as Ed Sheeran Wraps His Most Extensive Tour Yet in Country
Ed Sheeran wrapped his six-city tour of India on Feb. 15 with more than 120,000 tickets sold, according to Indian entertainment platform BookMyShow. Sheeran played seven nights across the country as part of his + – = ÷ x Tour that is continuing on to China, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and more.
The India dates — produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live and AEG Presents Asia — were the most extensive stops for Sheeran in the country with dates outside the major touring destinations of Mumbai and Delhi. The + – = ÷ x Tour kicked off in Pune on Jan. 30 at Yash Lawns (2000), followed by performances in Hyderabad on Feb. 2 at Ramoji Film City, Chennai on Feb. 5 at YMCA Ground and Bengaluru on Feb. 8 at NICE Grounds. Sheeran then headed to Shillong for a show on Feb. 12 at JN Stadium, before concluding in Delhi NCR on Feb. 15 at Leisure Valley Ground.
“Ed Sheeran’s record-breaking + – = ÷ x India tour across six cities underscores the fact that the India market at-large has come of age and BookMyShow along with AEG Presents are thrilled to have been able to lead the charge on bringing to life this tour – which has been Ed’s most extensive one in the region to date,” said BookMyShow founder and CEO Ashish Hemrajani. “The success and expanse of the tour puts the spotlight on India as a country where major artists can successfully tour multiple cities, much like in other critical must-play global markets anywhere in the world.”
Global touring has become a priority for major artists looking to extend dates outside of the primary markets. Sheeran played Mumbai in March of 2024 and returned less than a year later with a wider range of cities and an additional 120,000 tickets sold.
In January, Coldplay broke the record for the largest-ever stadium shows of the 21st century following a two-night stint at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in India, according to Live Nation who promoted the dates alongside BookMyShow.
“With several international artists and music bands witnessing sold out tours in India across cities over the past few years, the success of the + – = ÷ x Tour here, reinforces India’s place in the global live entertainment touring circuit as a market with spectacular economic potential and viability on the back of a vast, young population that looks to experience global cultural milestones through premium live entertainment,” adds Hemrajani. “This makes India a win-win destination for international artists, consumers and promoters all at once.”
