On Christmas Day, Fortnite players racked up more than 30million hours of playtime, according to a new report.

Fortnite is one of the most popular online games in the world and according to a new report from Ampere, more than 30million hours were spent in the virtual world last Christmas.

Ampere went on to say that the average Fortnite gamer would have spent more than two hours playing on December 25 (via Video Game Chronicle).

To celebrate the festive period, Fortnite hosted a limited-time event that featured Queen Of Christmas, Mariah Carey. Meanwhile, Call Of Duty players racked up more than 20million hours on Christmas Day.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 was launched October 25 and by the end of November, had 38million monthly users. According to Ampere, gamers spent more than $465million (£374million) on Xbox games during December, with Black Ops continuing to attract a huge playerbase and the successful launch of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle also helping Microsoft become the world’s biggest publisher at the end of 2024.

Black Ops 6 was also the biggest-selling game in America last year. Call Of Duty games have topped the charts for 13 of the last 16 years.

However earlier this month it was reported Black Ops 6 was losing players at an alarming rate. According to SteamDB, the platform’s dedicated Call Of Duty launcher saw a 43 per cent drop in usage in December. The numbers have continued to fall this month as well. Shortly after launch, an average of 165,000 people were playing via Steam but now that number is just 62,000. The arrival of season two has given Black Ops 6’s playerbase a boost though.

Chappell Roan has also revealed that if she wants to have a really good night in, ”I’ll just eat an edible and play video games” with Fortnite her game of choice. Speaking to the BBC after being crowned The Sound Of 2025, Roan revealed that she plays the game with an Ariana Grande skin.

In other news, a new tool from gaming platform GOG lets players vote for which classic games they want to make a return.
