Although it only lasted one season due to low ratings, the NBC series went on to become a cult classic and gained a loyal fan base throughout the years. Several of its stars also became major Hollywood actors, including James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel.
Creator Paul Feig also went on to direct major films such as Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters, while the show’s executive producer Judd Apatow later helmed the likes of Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
Now, fans have shared on a thread on Reddit, that they are still angry that the show was cancelled and it hasn’t been revived.
One wrote: “One season! I couldn’t believe it then, and still can’t believe it now after all these years later. All the STUPID SHOWS that have gotten greenlit in the past year after year, and this gem gets ONE SEASON! I’ll never get over this. Ever.”
Another added: “The fact that My So Called Life AND Freaks and Geeks both only got one season is criminal! Two great ‘high school experience’ shows that are still fun to binge, especially back to back.”
One fan continued: “They definitely shat the bed with this one.”
It comes after Feig recently raised hopes of a possible reunion for the show.
He said: “I mean, people always want to do a sequel, reunion or something and I’m not a fan of those kind of things. I’ve rarely seen them be like ‘Oh I’m so glad they did that’, [more often] it’s ‘Oh I kind of wish they didn’t do that.’”
Feig went on: “If I had a story, if some great idea came into my head, yeah, fine. Because also, the [actors] are still young – it is always sad when you do a reunion and they are all old. But they are all in their prime, so you never know.”
Back in 2019, Feig addressed the same topic, telling NME: “We’ve thought about it. I’d only do it if I had the world’s greatest idea for it, but my instinct is to sort of step away and not do it. But never say never.”
Feig is currently promoting his new film Jackpot!, an action comedy starring Awkwafina as Katie, a struggling actress who wins the lottery and John Cena as a protection agent trying to shield her from people trying to murder her.
