“Fuck Jeff Bezos”: Cult horror director Osgood Perkins would never direct James Bond film

The Monkey director Osgood Perkins says he has no desire to make a James Bond movie now that the franchise has been acquired by Amazon.

In a recent Reddit AMA, the horror director was asked by a fan: “Are you open to directing a Bond movie/trilogy? If so, who would you cast as your version of Bond?”

Perkins simply replied: “No, because fuck Jeff Bezos.”

It comes after billionaire Bezos previously appeared to publicly support President Donald Trump, writing that it was “an honour” to attend Trump’s second inauguration in 2025. “Excited to collaborate on accelerating innovation and supercharging the American economy,” Bezos commented at the time.

While Perkins ruled out Bond because of Bezos, he did disclose another iconic franchise he’d be happy to join – Star Wars.

Perkins wrote that his ideal film, if budget was no object, would be “the collected dreams and nightmares of Darth Vader told as short stories.”

Other projects on the director’s list include “a totally made up biopic about a real person, a neo-futuristic Freudian Western, [and] a movie about someone famous who died young and their experience of the afterlife.”

Perkins went on to explain that his visual style was influenced by his favourite films. “I try to make what I like. I don’t know how else to say it,” he wrote. “That ultimately means starting by copying one’s idols and influences,” which range from David Lynch to Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick.

Following Amazon’s acquisition of the James Bond, many fans have expressed concerns that the beloved franchise will now be “ruined” without the creative influence of Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

There has been no official announcement regarding the next James Bond film, with the last being Daniel Craig’s farewell in 2021’s No Time To Die.

Casting for the next 007 is also currently up in the air, with the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill frequently being linked to the role.
