Fugees’ Pras shares Lauryn Hill diss track after tour cancellation
Pras has shared a new diss track about Lauryn Hill, following her tour with Fugees recently being axed.
Hill and The Fugees were scheduled to kick off their world tour last Friday (August 9) in Tampa, Florida, and would continue their trek of the United States until September 21, before touring the UK and Europe in October.
However, last week, just three days before the first scheduled show, the band quietly cancelled the US leg of the tour without any official explanation. Hill would later go on to blame the media’s “sensationalism” around previous shows being cancelled for the low ticket sales (via Stereogum).
Now, the Fugees’ Pras has shared a new track, which appears to contain a diss about the vocalist.
Titled ‘Bar Mitzfa’, the song was teased by Pras on his Instagram Story, with him also writing a message over the top. “No one will remember: clickbait beefs, how many Gucci bags you owned, bogus excuses. People will remember: How you made them feel, if you kept your word, if they could count on you, if you come on Time!” he wrote.
In the rock-rap track – which can be heard exclusively on TMZ – Pras seems to air some frustration as he incorporates the lyric: “Don’t blame me, blame her, she made the mess … not another fucking penny, is what I told [Wyclef Jean].”
The outlet reported that the song was recorded last week as the artist “needed to blow off steam on the heels of low ticket sales shutting down the legendary hip-hop trio’s reunion plans”.
It also highlighted how Pras agreed with fans who were taking to social media to share their frustrations at Hill’s previous incidents of being late for shows. “I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story but oops … cat’s out the bag,” he reportedly told TMZ last week.
During the ‘Bar Mitzfa’ track, Pras also seems to touch upon his guilty verdict in a fraud trial last year. In April 2022, he was convicted for involvement in a billion-dollar money laundering scheme on 10 federal counts. His legal issues would later be found to be a major reason for the cancellation of the Fugees’ 25th anniversary tour of ‘The Score’ album.
Appearing to make a nod towards the verdict – which he is currently appealing and remains free from as the sentencing hasn’t been scheduled – he raps: “Obama’s name in the discoveries had to plead the fifth!”
This latest tour cancellation comes after a run of dates of shows dedicated to ‘Miseducation’ were axed last November, when Hill cited a “serious vocal strain for the past month”. She has since returned to performing with a handful of shows across February, March and April of this year including a slot at Coachella.
