‘Gavin And Stacey’ update: Final ever episode officially wraps filming

Gavin & Stacey

The filming of the final ever episode of Gavin And Stacey has officially been completed, the BBC has confirmed.

News of the upcoming finale was first reported on in February this year, with co-writers James Corden and Ruth Jones later confirming the last episode in May. “See you on Christmas Day,” they wrote at the time.

They officially started filming the finale in September with the cast sharing snaps from the set.

Now, in a post on X, the BBC wrote: “And that’s a wrap… for the last time ever. See you on Christmas Day!”

During filming for the finale, Rob Brydon, who portrays Uncle Bryn in the show, shared a pic of himself and Jones apparently from backstage on the show’s set. “Something’s occurring,” read the caption.

Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, said she was “ordering a burger” when she received the script for the new episode, and admitted she was “terrified” of giving anything away about the plot.

Meanwhile, the actor who plays Neil the Baby in Gavin And Stacey recently admitted his disappointment in missing out on being cast in the show’s finale.

Gavin & Stacey ran for three seasons between 2007 and 2010, and returned for a Christmas special in 2019. The latest episode ended on a cliffhanger; Nessa (Jones) proposed to Smithy (Corden), with the scene concluding before he could give an answer.

In a five-star review of the specialNME wrote: “Corden and Jones have crafted a near-perfect celebration of everything that made the show so great in the first place. Die-hard fans might have minor quibbles with a lack of character progression, but it’s clear Corden and Jones have resurrected their beloved baby with hugely successful results.

“Time will tell whether a more permanent return to Barry is on the cards, but without saying anything else, we certainly wouldn’t rule it out. All will become clear.”
