(G)I-DLE’s Soyeon calls out CUBE Entertainment over statement about her lyrics: “I did not lie or hide it from the company”
(G)I-DLE leader Soyeon has called out her label, CUBE Entertainment, over a statement the company released about lyrics the K-pop star sang during the girl group’s recent concert.
Over the weekend (on August 3 and 4), (G)I-DLE held the opening shows of their 2024 ‘i-DOL’ world tour in Seoul, South Korea. During the concert, while performing the song ‘Is this bad b****** number?’, Soyeon rapped the line “Contract ends November, who’s to stop me? I don’t have to fucking tiptoe”, per Korea JoongAng Daily.
Following the performance, fans started to speculate that the lyrics were a hint from Soyeon that she was contemplating leaving her long-time label CUBE Entertainment when her contract expires in the near future.
In a statement to the media on yesterday (August 5), CUBE Entertainment said that Soyeon’s lyrics were “simply part of the performance”, per SBS Star. The label also claimed that the K-pop star’s lyrics were a “spontaneous action” that was not discussed prior, and said that her actions “could cause harm to the company”.
However, Soyeon has since clapped back at CUBE Entertainment in a new Instagram Story post today (August 6), where the (G)I-DLE member claims that she “did not lie or hide it from the company”, as translated by Koreaboo.
“I have never intentionally lied or caused harm to anyone or done something without conscience,” she wrote. “I performed this in front of the company tons of times during rehearsal, and it is a stage that we made together.”
The K-pop star added that she doesn’t have “bad feelings” towards CUBE Entertainment. “Words can mean totally different things, even if one little thing is said wrong,” she wrote. “However, I do think it was an opportunity to feel the company’s lack of response.”
In other K-pop news, Netflix has released the first trailer for Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, a new docu-series about the making of girl group KATSEYE.
