Girls Aloud team up with Olly Alexander for ‘The Loving Kind’ and ‘King’ at Brighton Pride
Girls Aloud brought out Olly Alexander to perform ‘The Loving Kind’ and ‘King’ at Brighton Pride yesterday (August 3).
The reformed girl group took to the stage in shimmering gold outfits at Brighton’s Preston Park for the first day of the seaside city’s annual Pride event, which drew around 300,000 attendees.
Alexander joined them for their first performance of ‘The Loving Kind’ since 2009, while they later teamed up to perform the Eurovision alumnus’ hit ‘King’. They also covered Madonna‘s ‘Material Girl’ and added ‘Watch Me Go’ back to the setlist for the first time since 2006.

Girls Aloud’s Brighton Pride performance follows their extensive reunion tour, which marked their first live performances in 10 years. These have also been their first shows since the death of member Sarah Harding, who passed away in 2021 due to breast cancer.
The tour featured numerous tributes to Harding. During their cover of The Pretenders‘ 1994 hit ‘I’ll Stand By You’, audio of Harding’s vocals were featured, with the remaining members of the group singing backing vocals.
“When we were putting the show together, there was this piece of Sarah singing this song all by herself. Singing it amazingly and when we all heard it we were like ‘Wow’, she should have done this whole one by herself the whole time. So she going to tonight,” said Coyle, introducing ‘I’ll Stand By You’. “We’re going to do a duet with Sarah tonight. It’s going to be us, Sarah, you. Let’s do this together.”
During the final song of the night, ‘The Promise’, Harding appeared on a video screen singing her solo. The girls stopped halfway through to watch footage of Sarah performing the song on her own.
During the show in Newcastle, however, Cheryl Tweedy was almost “pulled off stage” by a fan.
