Green Day put out casting call for “punks, alts, hardcore, emo and rockers” for new movie
Green Day have put out a casting call for a new film inspired by the band’s early days. Find all the details below.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Live Nation Productions was working on a comedy movie called New Years Rev, with all three members of the pop-punk trio involved. Production is currently underway in Oklahoma.
The comedy, coming-of-age film will tell the story of three friends as they travel across the US after mistakenly thinking they’ll be opening for a Green Day at a New Year’s show in Los Angeles.
Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust are set to portray the young group of friends who embark on a life-changing journey. Directed by Lee Kirk, New Years Rev and also stars Jenna Fischer (Kirk’s wife) and Angela Kinsey – both of whom starred in The Office together. They’ll appear in the movie along with the likes of Sean Gunn, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Mark Ruffalo’s son Keen Ruffalo.
Besides Green Day, the film is also being produced by Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions. A release date for New Years Rev has not yet been announced.
Now, casting agency Freihofer has shared a callout for extras to play “attendees of a pop-up rock show at an outdoor location”. The advert is seeking “punks, emo, hardcore, alternative and rocker young adults” aged between 18-30.
Successful applicants will need to be available Monday to Thursday next week (February 24-27), with filming taking place “outdoors in the daytime”.
The post added: “One day will be a ‘rain and mud fight’ event. Warming stations and blankets will be provided. There will be live music, skateboarding and a rowdy good time.”
Pay is guaranteed at $101.50 per day. Anything over 12 hours will incur overtime. Each background artist will receive an additional $25 on the day they get wet and muddy. Travel and accommodation is not provided.
You can find more information on how to apply here, and check out the post above.
As Kerrang! notes, the ‘rain and mud fight’ scene is likely based on Green Day’s legendary slot at Woodstock 1994 which ended in a huge mud fight. The show was also released as a live album, ‘Woodstock 1994’.
In a previous statement about the forthcoming New Years Rev, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained: “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of.
“But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known.”
Live Nation Productions’ Ryan Kroft added: “With incredible guidance from Green Day, New Years Rev tells the story of young artists chasing a dream — long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fuelling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music.”
Green Day were nominated for three awards at the Grammys 2025 earlier this month, but ultimately went home empty-handed.
The trio are scheduled to return to the UK this summer to headline Download 2025 alongside Sleep Token and KoRn. Armstrong and co. released their 14th and latest studio album, ‘Saviors’, in early 2024.
In other news, Armstrong has praised the “awesome” Billie Eilish after collaborating with the pop star at the recent FireAid benefit concert in LA.
