Grimes produces ADÉLA’s new single ‘Machine Girl’, cameos in raunchy video
Grimes has made a cameo in breakout artist ADÉLA’s new video ‘Machine Girl’ – check it out below.
The pop driven single which was also co-produced by Grimes is a “biting commentary on the spectacle of female conflict – how, despite purportedly embracing a culture of women supporting women, audiences still revel in watching them tear each other down,”according to a press release.
In the video, ADÉLA is pitted against another dancer, played by High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress Sofia Wylie, in a demanding and increasingly brutal – dance routine.
As they come towards the end of their routine, Grimes steps in and urges ADÉLA to put more “rage” and “vitriol” into her performance.
It comes just days after Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) shared two previously unreleased demos – ‘I Don’t Give A Fuck, I’m Insane’ and ‘The Fool’.
Grimes had previously shared the lyrics to the latter on the eve of the 2024 US Presidential election. The track includes the lines: “Oh you’re a fool/ ‘Cause you tried to give me the moon/ And all I can give back is poetry,” an apparent reference to her ex Elon Musk.
She also recently called out her former partner on social media for allegedly “ignoring” their child’s “medical crisis”. Last week, she criticised Musk for parading their son X around the Oval Office as Trump signed an executive order in front of cameras.
Grimes, whose latest album ‘Miss Anthropocene’ arrived in 2020, has long been teasing an upcoming two-part record titled ‘Book 1’ and ‘Book 2’. She also shared plans to release a prelude EP called ‘Fairies Cum First’, and released a single from the project named ‘Shinigami Eyes’ in 2022.
Early last year, Grimes posted a teaser clip of her working in a recording studio. “Sorry I’ve been gone so long,” she said at the time. Excited to get back to work!” In 2023, the singer and producer said she was “making music for the first time in ages and I forgot this is very fun”.
She had previously provided an update about the status of ‘Book 1’, but indicated that music was no longer the main priority in her life by calling it a “side quest”.
