GTA 6’s first and only trailer dropped a year ago: “Please don’t tease us any more,” say fans

Grand Theft Auto 6

GTA 6 fans have taken to social media to speculate about a proper announcement for the highly-anticipated sequel on the one-year anniversary of the first teaser trailer.

After months of speculation, Rockstar shared the first teaser trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 on December 4, 2023. The announcement of the trailer became the most-liked gaming post in Twitter history while the 90-second teaser quickly became the most-viewed non-music video on YouTube.

Soundtracked by Tom Petty’s ‘Love Is A Long Road’, the trailer confirmed a 2025 release window and a return to the Miami-inspired Vice City. However since then, Rockstar hasn’t shared any more updates about the game.

Taking to Reddit, one fan wrote: “It has officially been 365 days Since Trailer 1. I personally am hoping something will come out this month, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we have to wait until early 2025 for any news.”

“A whole year without any word is wild,” reads the top-rated reply. “It’s still weird that the game is supposed to come out next year and we haven’t even got a new screenshot yet,” said another.

“Perhaps an unpopular opinion but Rockstar is Great developer but their treatment of the public is terrible ,the lack of communication or any word about the game is disrespectful to the fans who have been waiting for so long,” wrote one fan. “This is how hype is built…,” said another.

Other fans are speculating that Rockstar are gearing up to drop a new GTA 6 trailer. A YouTube playlist with the first trailer has been removed while their social media accounts have started posting more frequently. “The theory that Rockstar are posting everything today to clear out way for GTA 6 Trailer 2 may be true,” wrote one fan.

Others are embracing the chaos of the hype. “Maybe tomorrow….again,” wrote one fan. “I’m gonna be saying this everyday for however long we have until trailer 2,” replied another.

Earlier this month, Rockstar publishing director David Manley promised GTA 6 would be “absolutely mindblowing” after the title was named Most Wanted Game at the Golden Joystick Awards 2024. Meanwhile, a former developer claimed GTA 6 will “blow people away”.

In other news, Bloodborne fans are expecting an announcement about a new game or remaster after PlayStation shared a 30th anniversary celebration video that promised to reward “perseverance”.
