Haim reveal release date for comeback single ‘Relationships’ with new teaser clip
Haim have shared the official release date for their comeback single ‘Relationships’ in a new teaser video.
The sister trio – comprised of Este Haim, Alana Haim and Danielle Haim – have been hinting at their return to music this past month. They previously shared a snippet of their forthcoming single ‘Relationships’ with a TikTok of them singing along to the track in a bathroom and shared the single’s cover art on their Instagram.
Haim also previewed the song at their fan event in London last Friday (March 7). Now, the band have announced that ‘Relationships’ will be released this Wednesday (March 12).
They shared a clip of what may be the song’s accompanying video. In the clip, the sisters are seen lounging on an orange velvet sofa while Danielle sings: “I hear a voice in my head and it keeps asking why am I in this relationship,” before cutting into various flashbacks of moments including Danielle in a car, dancing at a club, jumping into a man’s arms, waking up in a bed alone and the three sisters standing staring at the camera.
A title card then appears reading: “Haim. Relationships. March 12 11:30am PT // 2:30pm ET.” The final shot is of Alana rolling her eyes and closing a car boot door. You can pre-save/pre-add the song here.
To hint at their return to music over the past month, the ‘Days Are Gone’ singers shared an Instagram post from Danielle’s 36th birthday party with a caption that read, “(ha)i’m single.. haim single?”.
They then posted a video clip in which the trio are dancing to the M83 track ‘Midnight City’ with a voiceover that says, “We are back baby, we are fucking back.”
The single’s cover art is thought to be a homage to the viral photos of Nicole Kidman from 2001, which many said were of the actress leaving her lawyer’s office after signing the divorce papers following her split from Tom Cruise.
After the photos went viral, Kidman discussed them with British GQ, saying, “That was from a film; that wasn’t real life.”
While Haim put out ‘Home’ in 2023, they haven’t released an album since 2020’s ‘Women In Music Pt. III‘. The album received a glowing five-star review from NME, with Rhian Daly writing: “By breaking from what the world might expect from them and letting themselves do whatever the hell they want, they have produced a record that’s experimental, soothing and vulnerable; it’s a thing of great beauty.”
A couple of months after the album’s release, Haim were in London for a massive headline show at All Points East. This also received a five-star review with the sisters making a “huge return” to their “spiritual home”.
Last week, meanwhile, the sisters covered Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ alongside actress Emma Stone at Saturday Night Live’s SNL50 afterparty. In turn, singer and actor Djo – real name Joe Keery – covered Haim’s ‘Gasoline’ for Triple J’s ‘Like A Version’ series a few days later.
