Halle Berry reveals why Storm isn’t in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
X-Men franchise star Halle Berry has revealed why her portrayal of Storm doesn’t appear in Deadpool & Wolverine – see what she had to say below.
Leading up to the film’s release, fans speculated that Berry’s Storm could made a cameo in the film, given her ties to the Fox universe alongside Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. However, hopes for Storm’s involvement in the film were dashed when the film was released without the character in sight – save for B-roll footage of the X-Men films during the movie’s credits.
Speaking to ComicBook, Berry explained her absence from Deadpool & Wolverine. When asked if she was ever in talks for a cameo, she replied: “No.” She went on to explain: “Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband [Ryan Reynolds’] movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”
Other rumoured cameos that fell through for the film includes Taylor Swift’s speculated appearance as Dazzler. However according to Deadpool & Wolverine‘s director Shawn Levy, the rumours were unsubstantiated and Swift was “never in talks” for an appearance.
Levy said: “I definitely had moments where I was worried I would disappoint people when they realized Taylor as Dazzler was not in the movie, but there’s no controlling the internet, and rumors spread like wildfire. It was never a conversation. It was never even a seed of a discussion. Obviously, Ryan [Reynolds] and Blake [Lively], and myself, to a far lesser extent, have our own relationships in real life with Taylor. But, yeah, those rumors were loud and slightly baffling, but nothing I said or did was going to make them quiet down until this movie came out.”
In other Deadpool-related news, the film has already broken the record for the biggest R-rated film opening of all time after taking $205million in North America, surpassing the record of the first Deadpool, and has taken a total of $438.3million globally. The film has since crossed the $1billion dollar mark.
Paul Bradshaw wrote in a three-star review of Deadpool & Wolverine for NME: “Despite the A-list distractions (no spoilers here), Deadpool & Wolverine is really all about Reynolds and Jackman. In fact, it’s really all about Reynolds – with Jackman doing a heroic job of playing the surly straight man trying to keep up with Reynolds’ sweary killer clown. The first two Deadpool films were funny and violent and original, but this one shows Marvel’s most gloriously inappropriate superhero at his very best and worst.”
