Halsey shares Britney Spears-sampling new single ‘Lucky’
Halsey has shared a new single called ‘Lucky’ – you can listen to it below.
The laid-back track samples both Britney Spears’ song of the same name (2000) and Monica’s hit ‘Angel Of Mine’ (1998).

“‘Cause I’m so lucky, I’m a star/ But I cry, cry, cry in my lonely heart, thinking/ If there’s nothing missing in my life/ Then why do these tears come at night?” Halsey sings in the chorus of ‘Lucky’, repurposing the original lyrics into a first-person narrative.
In the next verse, the alt-pop artist asks: “And why she losin’ so much weight?/ I heard it’s from the drugs she ate/ And I feel her, but I can’t relate/ ‘Cause I’d never end up in that state.”
‘Lucky’ was produced by Michael Uzowuru, Rahm Silverglade and Dylan Wiggins. Tune in here:
Teasing the single recently on social media, Halsey explained: “When I was 5, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me. 24 years later, these words hit different. Love you forever.”
Last week, Halsey revealed that Spears had permitted her to sample the song. “I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing,” she said.
‘Lucky’ follows on from Halsey’s previous single ‘The End’, which arrived last month. The singer told her fans at the time that she was “lucky to be alive” after experiencing difficulties with her health.
She later confirmed that she had Lupus and T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.
Elsewhere, Halsey explained that her next studio album – the follow-up to 2021’s ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ – will be “all over the place” and “full of experimentation”.
“When I started writing it, I thought it might be the last album I ever got the chance to make,” she wrote as part of a fan Q&A. “So I tried to do whatever I’d been wanting to do, but hadn’t tried yet.”
In March, Halsey revealed that she was working on new music in the studio alongside Alex G. The yet-to-be-announced record will mark the star’s first project under her name label Columbia Records.
