Harrison Ford in Jeep Super Bowl ad “even if my name is Ford”
Harrison Ford has appeared in a new Jeep Super Bowl commercial, poking fun at his name being the same as competitor Ford.
The new spot premiered as part of yesterday’s (February 9) event, which saw the Philadelphia Eagles triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs, while Kendrick Lamar headlined the Halftime show.
One of the many commercials that aired included one for Jeep, which was directed by A Complete Unknown and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s James Mangold, and sees Ford reflect on the idea of “freedom”.
“The longest thing we ever do is live our lives, but life doesn’t come with an owner’s manual. Might’ve been nice, huh?” he begins. “But that means we get to write our own stories.
“Freedom is: yes, or no, or maybe. Freedom is for everybody, but it isn’t free,” he continues. “It’s earned. There are real heroes in the world, but not the ones in the movies.”
He states that real heroes are “humble” and “not driven by pride”, adding: “Pride is a terrible driver. Freedom is the roar of one man’s engine, and the silence of another’s. Freedom is the ability to inspire.
“The most sacred thing in life isn’t the path. It’s the freedom to choose. You don’t have to be friends with someone to have to wave at them. We won’t always agree on which way to go. But our differences can be our strength.”
The ad also shows footage of Jeeps being driven, and ends with the star getting into his vehicle as he declares: “So choose, but choose wisely. Choose what makes you happy. My friends, my family, my work make me happy.”
Ford then jokes: “This Jeep makes me happy… even though my name is Ford. That’s my owner’s manual – get out there, write your own.”
Other commercials that aired included a Dunkin’ ad that saw Jeremy Strong and Ben Affleck poking fun at method acting, as well as a new teaser for Brad Pitt’s F1 film.
Ford will next be seen in Marvel film Captain America: Brave New World, where he will take on the role of President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Red Hulk.
Elsewhere, the star recently reflected on the box office failure of 2023’s Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, admitting “shit happens”.
“I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell,” Ford told The Wall Street Journal. “When (Jones) had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigour, to see what happened”.
He added: “I’m still happy I made that movie”.
