New photos have emerged of Harrison Ford as Red Hulk in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Captain America: Brave New World.

In July, fans were given a quick glimpse at the CGI creation in the first trailer for the superhero film, which will see Anthony Mackie return as Sam Wilson (aka The Falcon) – he has since taken on the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) peacefully retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Now, Entertainment Weekly has shared a closer look at the appearance of Ford as Red Hulk with new photos. The upcoming film, due for release in February 2025, sees Sam tasked with forming a new Avengers team by newly-elected US president Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross (Ford, who replaces the late William Hurt).

Ross, however, will also transform into the monstrous creature in the film. The teaser showed the Red Hulk in action for a brief few seconds.

On creating the Red Hulk, Marvel Studios’ head of visual development Ryan Meinerding told Entertainment Weekly: “The Red Hulk in the comics is not entirely a monster. He has more of a human personality to him. So, we’re trying to create something that felt a little bit more human to match Ross’s personality.”

Captain America: Brave New World producer Nate Moore shared with Entertainment Weekly that Ford’s Ross/Red Hulk is a character “who is trying to do the best he can but can’t quite outrun the demons of his past.”

“Turning a guy who hunted Hulks into a Hulk himself makes him more than an antagonist; it makes him a tragic character,” Moore added.

Visual effects supervisor Dan Cox revealed that Ford was also involved in the physicality of Red Hulk via motion capture. “At one point, I needed him landing and thought we can have the stunt guy do it. He’s like, ‘No, no, no! I’ll do it,'” Cox recalled.

“I put up an apple box that’s about two feet off the ground. I’m like, ‘I need you to jump down onto the ground and land as a Hulk.’ He did it about a dozen times, and every single time, I held my breath, but he went all in.”

In August, Ford told Variety that his motion-capture work primarily consisted of him fooling around on camera. When asked how he prepared for the role, Ford replied: “It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.”

The film’s cast includes Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns (aka the Leader), Shira Haas as Sabra, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Giancarlo Esposito as a mysterious villain. Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar also star.

Brave New World is directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) and is written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson (The Falcon And The Winter Solider), as well as Matthew Orton (Moon Night).
